Hello Zack. I saw you in September 07 in Seattle when you were touring with Steve Vai. Your show was great. Never a dull moment – very entertaining. Anyway, I just signed up for the King of the Blues contest the other day and it reminded me of your show. I honestly couldn’t remember your name, sorry, but I was curious to find out more about “the king of the blues guy that opened for Steve Vai”. Myself, I’ll be lucky to make it past the first stage of the contest. So I found your site and was checkin’ out some of your influences – very interesting. The Chet Atkins influence was definitely there when I saw you play – He’s definitely one of my favorite musicians. Another musician I really like, who is just totally out there (but in a good way), is Baby Gramps. Have you ever heard of him? If you haven’t, you should check him out. I saw him live when I first heard of him and he is something else I’m tellin’ ya. The only CD I’ve had of his was “Same Ol' Timeously - Vocalisthenics & Stunt Guitar” – Great CD – very odd – but great.

hey Zack! still exploring new territory in vinyl. latest treat is from your sister Carly and Jarrod, a Brazilian band called Os Mutantes from 1968, a great blend of psychedelic salsa, definitely worth a listen, my new "Dungen". If you'd like, I'll put it on cassette for you, as primitive as can be, just like Gilligan's island. You know, I was his stunt boy in the 60's. Your latest song Try Again is stuck in my head, I'm even humming it when I poop. Good job, yours, not mine.

neato, i knew les baxter and dr demento would be in there, and i could identify to chet atkins chickin pickin cuz i am still workin on it myself, the way you play mistur sandmanguy in particular is very atkins. i feel honored your biggest post ever is cuzza me. when i go to LA next we should totally jam-time. i think it would be the ride of my life(on my fretboard). the way your music comes together is everything ive wanted to hear in music aside from the uber technique virtuoso stuffies.

Hey Zack, I first heard your music on a Guitar Geek Festival video on YouTube. 'Really Neat' is an awesome composition that got into my brain and wouldn't leave for a couple of days, I think it reflects your eclectic taste with its funky drive, jungle rythm and baroque arpeggios at the end.

A record worth checking out is Dizzy goes Hollywood by Dizzy Gillespie. Reworkings, not just transcriptions, of Hollywood tunes like the theme from Exodus (Gillespie rythmically rephrases the first phrase of this tune so drastically that it makes the whole thing swing like nothing else) and the love theme from Kubrick's Lolita (the original composition was heavilly influenced by Rachmaninoff and it's amazing how Gillespie made it his own)
