Barry Goldberg Reunion on Buddah Label

I went to the record store and came across a record with a little blue “Buddah” label in the corner. Barry Goldberg ReunionThinking back to last week’s score I found on Buddah label, I figured I’d test this record out: There’s No Hole in My Sole by The Barry Goldberg Reunion. It sounded really bluesy mixed with 60′s organ, fuzzed guitars, tasteful blues harp (harmonica), and nice reverberated drum tones throughout. ‘Could be considered Bluesy Psychedelic. I looked up the year and found out it was released in 1968. And there’s a cool instrumental version of “Fool on the Hill” by The Beatles with organ taking most of the melody. I’m gonna say that the record is quite listenable from start to finish. Good job, Barry!!!

45rpm Single by Ohio Express

I picked up a 45RPM record on my way home from work. Never really heard of them ’til last night. The group is called Ohio Express. It looked old and was on Buddah Records. So, I tested it out at the listening station. The one side was really 1960′s poppishness, but the flip-side track Zig Zag was awesome! It had reversed drums and organ throughout. So, I got it for a buck. I went on iTunes today to further research The Ohio Express, and didn’t really find too much of their really old stuff. Mostly newer recordings. The few older tracks that were available were mostly listed under “Bubble Gum” pop. But that one track Zig Zag really sounds psychedelic! Not sure about the rest of their body of work, but definitely check out that particular tune if you like tripped out late sixties music!

I Got a New Set of Speakers for My Record Player.

Oh, yes, the neighbor downstairs loves me. I just picked up a nice set of “Vector Research” speakers; two satellites and a sub. I just trusted the guy who sold them to me in the parking lot of the 7-11 near my place. Risks are worth taking, because these things roar. I never heard my LPs sound this good! I’m not sure if the company is still around or not, but if you’re looking for speakers for your home stereo and don’t want to spend a ton of cash, I recommend them. I’ve been using my recod player a lot, too, as I’ve been buying some awesome records lately at this really hip record store near my workplace. (I’m not telling you what it’s called, because you’ll go and find all the records I want before me!- nah nah!!!-) A few LPs I just picked up include Buddy Emmons “Steel Guitar Jazz”, The Animals third record “Animal Tracks”, a Paul McCartney bootleg at the LA Forum doing “Live and Let Die”, The Seeds “Web of Sound” (very cool psychedelic find), Gnarls Barkley “St. Elsewhere”, and a bunch more that I can’t say because it might give away some Christmas gifts that are going to my girlfriend and dad and cousin.
